1k (1000) is the player character in The Talos Principle 2. He serves as the puzzle solver on the Expedition Team. In the context of the story, 1k represents the completion of the Goal.
The Talos Principle II
1k is the one-thousandth new human to be born in New Jerusalem. Having completed the Trials of the Simulation, 1k awakens in the real world and is greeted by Neith. Emerging from the dam, he is welcomed into the city by a celebratory crowd. The ceremony is interrupted by an apparition calling itself Prometheus. 1k joins Byron, Yaqut, Alcatraz, and Melville on an expedition to find the source of the apparition. They arrive at an island and discover the Megastructure, as well as numerous surrounding islands containing a multitude of puzzles.
While venturing deep into the Megastructure, 1k witnesses Byron become trapped within the Megastructure's system. Unable to help his friend, 1k escapes with the rest of the team, and they return to New Jerusalem. While Alcatraz speaks to Hermanubis, 1k searches for Cornelius to ask him for help, only to discover that Cornelius has disappeared. He runs into Neith, and it happens that she is also searching for Cornelius, but concludes that he must have left the city. 1k accesses Cornelius' computer terminal and downloads what appears to be a blueprint. He gives it to Yaqut, and the team returns to the Island to find a way to save Byron.
When 1k enters the Megastructure for the third time, he frees Prometheus. Later, Prometheus guides 1k to Byron, and together, they try to escape, but Pandora blocks their path. Byron and 1k are subsequently knocked unconscious. When 1k wakes up, he is in Neith's lab. She explains how he was rescued and what happened in the city while he was asleep.
In the final act, 1k joins either Alcatraz or Byron and returns to the Megastructure one last time to rescue Athena. If 1k solves the Gold puzzles, he has the option to meet with Cornelius and rescue Miranda.
Orpheus Ascending
Having discovered how to bring the dead back to life, Cornelius tasks 1k with rescuing Sarabhai, a First Companion who died centuries ago in the New Alexandria disaster. Cornelius, Miranda, and Melville watch over 1k as he ventures into Sarabhai's mind to solve puzzles which will put her personality back together.
Isle of the Blessed
1k rejoins his friends for the opening of Barzai's new puzzle exhibition, Freedom From Necessity. After solving all the puzzles, 1k and Melville experiment with their new senses. 1k eats a coconut and likes the crunchy bits.
Trivia
- In the base game, the 1k's dialogue choices are not spoken aloud. In Isle of the Blessed, it is revealed that this was true in-universe:
Alcatraz: By the way, 1k, I'm glad you've picked a voicepack. It's nice to hear you actually speaking.
1k: Well, Neith didn't mention the voicepacks, and I didn't realize I could've just picked one. It's not like I wanted to spend the entire expedition in text mode!
Yaqut: I told you guys it wasn't intentional.
Melville: We thought it was a statement or something.
- He is voiced in the expansion by Joshua Wichard, who also voiced 1k's inner monologue in the base game.
